PA/NP - Hospital Based

SUMMARY

The Trauma/Vascular/ACS/NP or PA will assume a primary provider role in the care of patients in a hospital setting. Provides cross coverage of Surgical First role within the operating room. Call coverage is required, and holidays will be rotated.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Analyzes, interprets, and evaluates subjective and objective findings to develop an assessment in order to initiate a treatment plan or referral to the appropriate physician or provider.
  2. Assesses patients and performs diagnostic procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing medical and surgical problems. Prescribes necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
  3. Orders laboratory and diagnostic testing and interprets results, prescribes, administers, and dispenses medications and other treatments.
  4. Performs routine duties — first aid care, wound care, suturing minor wounds and lacerations, suture removal, incision and drainage procedures, basic procedures, and collaborates/consults with the physician.
  5. Develops a treatment plan of care based upon assessment, which includes prescribing appropriate medications and treatments, providing follow-up care, and evaluating the effectiveness of care.
  6. Makes appropriate referrals to other health providers as necessary and monitors patient’s outcomes, maintains safety, infection control, and quality of care standards.
  7. Completes Hospital rounds with Vascular, Trauma, and Acute Care attending physicians daily. Afternoon rounds may be independent, but MD updates are expected.
  8. Adheres to HIPAA laws and maintains patient confidentiality.
  9. Provides appropriate documentation in the medical chart and completes all discharge summaries for patients or service lines they are responsible for.
  10. Provides cross coverage of Surgical First role within the operating room.
  11. Perform other projects/tasks as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE – NP

  • Masters Degree in Science in Nursing is required.
  • Certification by the State of Wisconsin of Nursing is required.
  • Nurse Practitioner with Pediatric credentials preferred.
  • ACS, Trauma surgery, Vascular surgery, and critical care experience is preferred.
  • National certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and/or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners is preferred.
  • Experience with Epic software is preferred.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE – PA

  • Masters Degree in Science, Physician Assistant studies is required.
  • Completion of Physician Assistant program approved by Medical Association.
  • Licensure of Physician Assistant Medical Board of the State of Wisconsin.
  • Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Physician Assistant with Pediatric credentials preferred.
  • ACS, Trauma surgery, Vascular surgery, and critical care experience are preferred.
  • Experience with Epic software is preferred.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT

The nature of the job requires standing and sitting for periods of time. While performing the essential functions of the job, one may frequently bend/stoop and occasionally squat, reach above the shoulder, crouch, or push/pull. Some lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs may be required. The use of hands for repetitive, simple grasping and firm grasping is required. While performing the job, one will encounter close paperwork, use of computer monitor/equipment, and visual monotony. Hearing must be utilized for continuous conversations, equipment monitoring, telephone use, background noise, and occasional transcription. Frequent stress may occur. The job requires continuous independent decision-making.
