Botox for Migraines
Botox – the cosmetic formulation frequently used to help smooth lines and wrinkles – is effective in the treatment of chronic migraine headaches. Millions of Americans suffer from migraine headaches, many of which are debilitating. As an alternative to pain medications, which provide only temporary relief, Botox that is given at regular intervals, a few times a year, can reduce the frequency and intensity of future headaches over time.
Did you know?
Pain relieving medications have long been the standard of managing chronic headaches and migraines. But did you know that Botox has been approved for the prevention of chronic migraines by the Food and Drug Administration? The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence conducted controlled trials to test the efficacy of Botox for migraine headaches in comparison to placebos. In each trial, Botox significantly out-performed the placebo, producing a noticeable reduction in headache frequency.
I have chronic migraines. Am I a candidate for Botox treatment?
Botox is generally not the first line of treatment for migraine headaches. Instead, it is reserved for patients who have been unresponsive to headache medications. You may be a candidate for Botox for migraines if you have headaches on at least 15 days each month, with more than half of them being migraines. The only way to know for sure if Botox could help alleviate your headaches is by scheduling a consultation with your doctor.
What should I expect during a migraine Botox treatment?
Your Botox treatments will be administered in your doctor’s office. Most sessions take only 5 to 10 minutes, during which time a fine needle is used to inject small amounts of Botox into 7 key areas of the head. There are a total of 31 injections, which may induce mild discomfort. You’ll be allowed to return home the same day and resume normal activities soon after.
What types of results can I expect after Botox for my headaches?
Botox can provide significant pain relief for chronic headaches, but results vary from person to person. Keep in mind that it may take several weeks and more than one treatment before your headaches begin responding to Botox injections.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are non-surgical cosmetic treatments used to rejuvenate the look and feel of the skin. Many people use chemical peel service to optimize treatment outcome and achieve a smoother and more radiant complexion.
Did you know…
that the skin begins to lose its glow over time? This is because the skin’s natural shedding of dead cells slows with age, causing it to appear dull and lackluster. Though new, healthy skin exists below the surface, it is often masked by an old and uneven external layer of skin. Chemical peel treatments help reveal healthy, glowing skin and restore a youthful appearance.
What is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel is an in-office procedure during which an acid solution is applied to the surface of the face. The solution is left on for a few minutes, after which time it is removed or neutralized. Most people experience some mild tingling during a chemical peel, which usually takes only a few minutes to complete. Following a chemical peel, the skin may ‘flake off’ for a couple of days before revealing newer, healthier looking skin beneath the surface. Chemical peels are useful for improving the appearance of the skin and conditions like hyperpigmentation, fine lines, sun damage, acne scars and age spots.
Double Chin Treatment
Kybella is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment to improve the appearance of moderate to severe fat beneath the chin (submental fullness) by physically destroying fat cells.
Did you know?
According to a 2015 survey conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, 67% of people said they are bothered by the fat beneath their chin, or what your healthcare provider may refer to as “submental fullness associated with submental fat.”
What causes submental fullness?
Submental fullness due to fat beneath the chin can impact a broad range of both male and female adults. Some possible causes are:
– Genetics
– Weight gain
– Aging

Lip Augmentation
Many people dream of having full, voluminous lips like those of celebrities and models that grace magazine covers. But genetics, aging and lifestyle factors like smoking can all cause the lips to appear thin and diminutive. Lip augmentation is a solution for people who want to enhance narrow lips or otherwise rejuvenate lips that have become wrinkled with age. Patients have several options for lip augmentation, including injectible fillers, synthetic implants, and grafted organic implants. Fillers are injected into the lips and offer only temporary results. Implants, on the other hand, offer long-lasting results that can provide enhanced lip volume for several years, or even a lifetime.

Am I a good candidate for lip augmentation?
Your candidacy for lip augmentation depends on the type of augmentation you will undergo. Dr. Markelov can help you decide whether lip enhancement is an option for you; and if so, whether certain lifestyle habits like smoking could affect the outcome of your procedure.
What should I expect during lip augmentation procedure?
Your experience will depend on the type of augmentation you undergo. Injectible fillers, which offer temporary enhancement, are usually performed under local anesthetic during an office visit that is likely to last only a few minutes. Lip grafts or synthetic implants require more time and are often performed with light sedation. However, all lip enhancement procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, allowing patients to return home the same day.
What post-operative instructions will I need to follow after my lip augmentation?
If you opted for permanent lip implants, you’ll be instructed to sleep on your back and keep your head elevated in the days and weeks following the procedure. You’ll also need to take any medications as prescribed and use cold compresses to minimize swelling. If you have stitches, you’ll need to avoid touching them with your tongue, as this can increase your risk of an infection.
Botox
Botox is a safe, FDA-approved cosmetic treatment that has been popular among healthy American men and women since its FDA approval in 2002. Millions of people have undergone Botox injections to help smooth facial lines and restore a younger appearance. Botox is injected into the facial muscles, helping to block nerve impulses and relax the muscles. Without contracting facial muscles, lines become less evident and are prevented from worsening.
